I don't see what the big deal is, if the post was meant to intentionally hurt someone then it is not cool, but I don't understand why we can't talk about it on a Message Board. Yes it is sad to see a local man get busted for his offenses, but he still broke the law, he was with the kids everyday after school and who is to say that he wouldn't have sold these drugs to the younguns. You can't say "Oh I know ol Lerory, he would never do anything like that," but I bet they wouldn't have known he would commit a crime to support his crime. There is no perfect person, we all have our faults, but I thought chat rooms were meant to talk about public stuff. As far as admitting he has a problem, he should have thought about that before this happened!

I didn't take it down...I don't even know anything about it other that what little I have seen in this post...I've been away for 2 days...So it wasn't me.

I think it was a sad situation...very unfortunate and I hate his kids are having to deal with that.


However as far as posting a situation on here.....news and events are meant to be on here right I thought anyway I could be wrong.

Posting a non demeaning post about public information IMO is not wrong. What about the Katrina victims...we should keep those families in mind before we constantly remind them their homes were destroyed...What about the president dog him like it is no ones business....What about that little girl in Norton that was brutally assaulted and every one decided they should talk about it, anyone ever think about that family? I guess what I am saying is why is it ok for some to talk about somethings but others things are off limits?

I took it down. I just did not think it needed to be placed on the forum. he is a friend of mine and not only that but i did not want anything started over the matter. plus i did not want any attention taken away from what norton is doing this year in there football program. it already started going that way. and the young men does not deserve that.

I can't say that is a good reason to take it down. Now if people were using it as a spring board to attack the kids at Norton I could understand it. And while I am all for second chances and truly hope that the man in question can get his life back together. I for one would not let my kids within 50 feet of him (and that may be wrong on my part but it is the way I feel about it) I think it does bring up two big issues #1 the type of people we have around our kids and #2 How big is the Drug problem in our area. I know that the problem in Lee is well documented and the problem in Dickinson County was bad enough that the School Board came up with a Drug testing policy for extra curricular activity (Sports, Cheerleading, anything nonschool related)

I wonder if Teachers and Volunteers at all schools should be required to submit to a drug testing. I think most parents would be all for having there children tested as well but unless i am mistaken Testing of 100% of the student population could never happen and at best could only be limited to extra curricular activities which IMHO would be a positive step

When you are calling out names of kids, saying that I bet so-and-so is really embarassed by this, then IT DOES NOT BELONG ON THIS FORUM. Kudos to AL, you and only you did the right thing. Keep on keeping on big guy.

I agree that calling the kids out and bringing it to that level should not be allowed and if I had seen that I would have removed it as well. That being said I don't think that this is something that should not be swept under the rug.

The thing about it is...it shouldn't be swept under the rug about who actually got arrested or whatever, but if you bring kids, relatives, or a football team into the picture who had nothing to do with it...that's wrong and should never happen. Kids should never be punished or made fun of or whatever for something their parent, coach, or relative did.

I do think that teams need to do some type of background check on Volunteers since according to the paper this was his second offence with the Drugs. As I said before I am all for second chances but I can say that I would be pretty upset if a school was putting my child in close proximity of a person that according to the paper was convicted in 1995 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine. IMHO the school system could have alot to answer for. I think if I were a parent of a child at Norton I would be at the next School Board meeting mad as a wet hen that this was allowed to happen. I really feel for the kids that did nothing to put themselves in this situation.

I would honestly like to think that All the schools in our area would put into place some measures that would prevent someone with a drug rap sheet from working with kids.
